New cargo railway operator is born, led by OPL Carga

November 2016

One month after the first test of the freight train between Santa Marta and La Dorada (Caldas), and vice versa, the National Agency of Infrastructure (ANI) confirmed that they are advancing work so that in 2017 regular start can be given to the operation of this broker. In this sense, the entity works from two fronts: the infrastructure of the rail corridor and the achievement of the operators. "With the test train, we identified the places that most required investment and in which we need to make improvements," said Luis Fernando Andrade, president of the ANI, who added that "we are in the process of opening a public works contracting process to make these repairs. "

The Atlantic Hold Trade project is to buy railroads and operate this railroad corridor. In this regard, the President of the ANI explained that "they tested the train to show the banks and their customers that the corridor is in good condition to operate." At this moment, this company from the United Kingdom, in partnership with the Colombian firm OPL, is getting financing to place firm orders for the locomotives and wagons, and thus start operations next year, as Andrade explained. This, by highlighting the importance of the support of the British government, with which they hope that the financing of the project will be easier.
